Excellence degree is secured on accruing 150 points. Degree of distinction, this is awarded once an individual attains 250 points. Special distinction degree, this is secured on accruing five hundred points. The outstanding distinction degree is secured once a student accrues one thousand points.

The League is very keen on empowering young people who are in secondary schools to become ethical individuals, critical thinkers, effective communicators and leaders of a society that is democratic . It does this by organizing contests, completion and tournaments that are carried out countrywide

Winners in these contests are awarded over one hundred thousand dollars in college scholarship. This is a major motivation factor to all participating students. Though there are some life long members, only students in high school are allowed to participate in the tournaments.

Since 1931 the countrywide speech competition has been held through out without fail. The only time that it was not held was during the World War Two period between 1939 and 1945. NFL tournaments are usually carried out at state, national and district levels.
